About us

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (DEM) is the unit of University of Aveiro focused on teaching, research and services for the community on the field of Mechanical Engineering.  Research and development are mainly conducted under the DEM Research Unit, the Centre for Mechanical Technology and Automation (TEMA). It is TEMA that gives to DEM an institutional profile where scientific research plays an important role. The main areas of activity include as main pillars: Automation, Thermal Fluid Sciences, Mechanical Technology, Mechanical Design, Applied and Computational Mechanics, and Nanoengineering. Other relevant areas of activity include Product Development, Biomechanics, Energy, and Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies.
